Stephanie Fox Lawrence is a fine art model turned visual artist. Though creatively inclined from a young age, it wasn’t until she lived abroad and began posing for artists – and subsequently creating reference material – that she found her own artistic medium:
self-portrait photography. 
 
Stephanie describes her youth as being ‘lost’ in one unending daydream. This surreal, dreamlike quality has since imbued her own visual style, with which she creates imagery that evokes human elements of familiarity/nostalgia yet often feels beyond concrete definition or description. 
 
Due to the complete lack of planning or preconception in her process, she views her self-portraiture as a mode of self-exploration more than self-expression, using it to navigate the parts of herself previously forbidden to her:

"It’s like diving into dark water and reaching to grasp at whatever floats between my fingers. What will I find in these cold, shadowy depths? Something beautiful? Something terrible?"
